Hobby Update 12/12/23

This week I am excited because I have embarked on a new project, and made some good headway right out of the gate. Later this week I will be doing a post on wargaming YouTube channels I recommend, so stay tuned.

What have I been painting?

This week I painted 3 units for my 6mm Thirty Years war project, including two 72 figure tercios, and an 18 figure cuirassier regiment. I am very pleased with how quickly these guys are painting up, and I can’t wait to get the Tercios on bases.

For the Imperial Tercios, I’m going with lighter colors like tans and off-whites, and while I know it’s not historical to have uniforms for the Thirty Years War, I am still going to have broad color schemes for each force to make the reconizable.

I am really please with the way this cavalry unit turned out. They were very easy, all I had to do was a metallic drybrush for the the armor before painting the horses.

What have I been playing?

This week I played my first ever game of Blood & Plunder, and I’m not sure how to rate it. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I enjoyed the core mechanics, but there were way to many special rules on the unit cards and whatnot. Overall though, if you are a pirate lover, I would recommend Blood & Plunder. I currently have the flu, but assuming I feel better by Saturday, I will be running a big 5 player Battle of the Bulge game at my clubs Christmas game day.
