How to: Tiny Russian Villages

Today I’ll show you how I make my 3mm Russian villages. This tutorial could be used to make villages in any scale.

What you need

1. Model Buildings
2. Bases
3. Dark green or brown spray paint
4. Modeling dirt or railway ballast
5. Static grass
6. PVA glue

The buildings I am using are these https://www.paperterrain.com/3mm-products/3mm-scale-north-russian-village-pack, but you could use any buildings you wish. I like the look and the cost of the paperterrain buildings, but they do require a bit of assembly.

The next step is to prepare your bases. I did three base circular base sizes for this project, 50mm, 80mm, and 120mm. I 3D printed my bases, but you could get them anywhere. While not necessary I prefer to spray paint my bases dark green or brown before I get started.

Once your bases are ready to go, slather them in PVA glue. After that sprinkle your dirt of choice on the bases, making sure to knock off the excess. I use this https://www.amazon.com/Army-Painter-Battlefield-Essential-Battleground/dp/B07PW7CLB7?th=1. Once that’s done you should have a nice dirt spread on your bases.

Now it’s time to pull out your buildings. I use a hot glue gun to attack my buildings to the bases, but there may be better options if you are using non-paper buildings.

After the buildings are firmly attacked dab PVA glue everywhere on the bases, unless you want a dirt road like I did. In which case leave that part dry. Once the glue is one the base take some static grass and sprinkle all over. Then turn the base upside down and tap it several times, to make the grass stand on end and knock off the excess. Now you should have some sharp looking Russian villages!! I hope this tutorial is helpful.
